Launched in 1889, the SS Teutonic was like the other White Star liners, often used to transport Irish migrants across the Atlantic. She saw use a troop ship in the Boer War and as an armed merchant cruiser in WW1. In October 1918 she nearly hit an iceberg (within 20 feet according to the Chicago Tribune) off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. In 1921 she was scrapped at Emden in Germany.
