New York Central and creosote

While on the subject of the NYC here is an advert for pressure treating wood items with creosote from 1956 with a train headed by locomotive 4029, an E7, and a promotional photo from the early 1950s with the same locomotive.  The NYC's locomotive front 'stripes' scheme was replaced in the early 1960s with the 'cigar band' scheme.

While wood ties are still widely used by railroads, most mainline ties laid today are steel reinforced concrete and creosote is disliked because of health risks.
