Thorndon, Wellington, circa 1914

How this area would have looked in the WW1 period.  Buildings of Hawkestone Street can be seen on a diagonal near the bottom of the photo as well as a little of Hawkestone Crescent on the right which was obliterated completely and removed from the map with the foothills motorway of the late 1960s.  For more, see earlier posts and the book Wellington: a Capital century.
