cars through MacArthur Park, L.A., 1942


This can be accurately dated as the rededication of Westlake Park as General Douglas MacArthur Park took place in May 1942.

Odd that there are no 1940 to 1942 cars in the picture. Those were years of big same of new cars and I would have expected to see at least one or more near new car in a picture taken in Los Angeles. I suspect this photo was taken in 1939 (or maybe earlier) as the latest cars readily identifiable are 1937 models (Chevrolet and Cadillac).

That should read - "Those were years of big sales of new cars...."
